The construction of Shenzhen North Station was started in October 2008 and ended in December 2011 (construction period of 3 years and 2 months). The station has a total floor area of 180,000 square meters. The roof of main station hall is 410 meters long from east to west and 200 meters long from north to south. The entire station building is designed as a "dragon head" (which means leadership in the Chinese culture) shape, and the design and architectural style fully reflect Shenzhen's leading status in the reform and opening up. The roof of the station building is in the shape of "upper-flat and lower-curved". The combination of straight line and horizontal plane and of curved line and "waved surface" embodies the characteristics of Shenzhen as a coastal city.
Shenzhen North Station has a special waiting area for the elderly, young, sick, disabled, pregnant and other key passengers in the waiting hall, in which there are special service areas such as the nursing room for mothers, waiting area for the elderly, waiting area for pregnant women, children's playground and waiting areas for other key passengers.
