With an area of 867,000m2, the station was put into operation on May 8th, 2011. It’s 2,900m long north to south and 520m wide west to east. It consists of three parts, respectively, western square, main station building and eastern square. The main station building covers an area of 108,000m2. On the east side and west side of the waiting hall, passengers can see the figure ‘the bird of Apollo comes back’ which originates from Sanxingdui culture. It symbolizes China’s thriving railway career. The station building can be divided into five layers, the overhead waiting hall on the top layer and, the station yard floor, transfer floor and subway transit floor from top down.
Chengdu East Station is mainly the departure station and terminal station of trains heading for Beijing, Shanghai, Wuhan, Lanzhou, Xi’an, Chongqing, Guiyang, Kunming, etc. The waiting hall covers an area of 36,000m2. Thanks to convenient transit passages available inside the station, passengers who have bought connecting tickets could wait for the next train in the waiting room without leaving the station building.
The waiting hall of Chengdu East Station has baby care waiting room and business class waiting area. Passengers with reduced mobility can make appointments for wheelchairs and stretchers which help them enter or leave the station. ‘Youjia Service Post’ is a high-quality party brand within the whole railway system.
